to sum up

to sum up

I never told you my stories from my last trip to the UK, so here goes...

I saw some beautiful castles, bought some yarn that makes me giddy, met Danny Wallace, and went bowling.  I drank cider and rose, made jokes with mom about the difference between public and "pub-like," and fell asleep in the car a lot.

The thing I noticed the most: how I slid so easily between my two countries.  Of course I was excited to go and sorry to leave, but I didn't feel like a tourist in the slightest.  I saw the tube as a way to get from here to there, not an attraction.  I fixed tea at Ashley's house.  I feel like these sound like silly things to give as examples: like they don't communicate what I mean properly.  Let's just say that I have always had a romantic fascination with the UK.  This time, I had more of a comfort with it on a level that I han't had before.

Here are some more pictures, if you care to see them...

And a few other posts on my other blog:

.how Scotland influenced my creative mind.

.crafty bits.

.an avantgarde approach to travel photography.

fall is my true love

fall is my true love

I saw two pairs of short, slouchy boots at Target yesterday.  One grey pair, one plaid pair.  I was melting in the ninety something degree weather, but I was soooo happy when I saw those boots.  They were whispering a little secret to me: "Fall is finally on its way..."

I always have and always will be a Fall lover.  I love the cute layered clothes, the cooler weather, the excitement of a new year of school, the plans that need to be made, the promise of the holiday season... it's all so deliciously busy and important and exciting.

And frankly, I pretty much despise hot weather.  It makes me cranky and unproductive, and I am one of the few people in the world that is happy to see summer go.  I realize that this opinion makes me remarkably unpopular, and maybe even a little crazy.

Anyway, I've created a few fall inspired things for the shop...

.Rory's Keys.

The "Rory's Keys" series of broaches is inspired by the studious and stylish Rory Gilmore from the tv show Gilmore Girls. Decorated with swarovski crystals, these vintage keys vary in size, color, and shape. No two are alike in appearance or character.  We've got husband hunters, sorority girls, reporters, and small town girls all playing in the mix here.  The one thing they do all have in common?  They are all for smart, stylish girls who always feel a little bit different from the rest of the crowd.

Rory's Keys Edited copy

.Back to School.

We also have a charming collection of back to school supplies for those gals luck enough to still be students.  These binders are made from recycled products and adorned with doilies, flowers, buttons, beads, and hand stitching.  The dividers are embossed and include customized subject  titling.  Both the binder and divider leave plenty of room for doodles and daydreams.

Hello, My Name is Dr. Frankenstein

Hello, My Name is Dr. Frankenstein

I have been tediously stitching and lovingly stuffing this trio for so long.  You can't imagine how excited I am to introduce you two my three newest friends:

Meet the monsters copy

These gals (and guy!) are more than just fuzzy little grinning machines.  They have powers, roles and stories that they are really excited to tell you about.  You can learn more about them here.

hi!

hi!

Um, hi, everyone!  I am back from the UK and deciding how best to describe all the fun-ness that happened over the past few weeks in one blog post.  It probably can't be done, so while I edit photos and sort through memories, I will leave you with a few of my favorite pictures that I took on my Iphone.

Don't you just love that last one of Ashley?  Tres tacky, in all the right ways.  : )

Be back again with more stories.

can someone turn on the twilight zone music?

can someone turn on the twilight zone music?

I just finished packing.  Everything fit.  There is even room to spare.  I am positive it is under the weight limit.

Something is terribly wrong.

Hi, Friends. : )

Hi, Friends. : )

Sorry I haven't stopped by to visit more often lately.  I've been very busy pretending that I am Dr. Frankenstein (an analogy which will be made clear once I return from Wales and update my shop).

Also, yeah, my mom and I leave for the UK on Thursday!  Yippee!  Here are two posts I have written on my other blog that are related to our impending departure.

.adventures in pictures.

.holy freakin one week left, batman!.

xoxo

some jaime data

some jaime data

Ouchie: I'm stitching again, so the callous on my thumb has re-appeared.  I showed this to Bruce once, and called it a work related injury.  We laughed, because I am really damn clever.

Compliment: Last night, my mom told me that I sounded like a psychiatrist.  She sounded proud.  Am mildly entertaining the idea of going into art therapy.

Relief: I've been in a really bad mood the past few days, but it has finally lifted.  My days are once again spent merrily stitching and knitting- not moping and eating hershey's kisses for no other reason than mean hormones attacking me.

Confession: I've been watching Wife Swap reruns whilst stitching in the morning.  I wonder why people think that eating vegetables and taking the trash out for a few days while under another mom/wife's rule will result in apocalypse that must be fought with a screaming hissy fit?  I can only think of one thing that I would have to try out for a few days (violence excluded, of course, but the people on the show aren't allowed to touch each other anyway, I think) that would make me react so.  That thing= people yelling at me or saying mean things to me.

Dream: I wish that I could live in the house I grew up in right now.  It is such a cute little house, and the garage has been transformed into an office-like room that would make the sweetest little studio.  My dad started his business in that office, and I think it would be such a neat right of passage if I could do the same.  I want to paint the walls in it pink, hang some light curtains, bring in a space heater and some shelves, and listen to the rain fall while I stitch and knit away.  It sounds like pure heaven, especially if there is a little someone called Ashley living in the house with me.

Photo:  This is the cutie to which I am referring.  The office is in the back.

Fact: I have used the word "stitching" 4 times in this post.  Synonyms, please?

i get it from my mother

i get it from my mother

Setting: last night, on my bedroom floor, admits several balls of yarn and papers that say crazy things like "K1, P1, ktog" on them

Me: "What do you think?"  (Holds up a cup with a coffee sleeve I have just finished designing wrapped around it.)

Mom: "The bow is floppy."

Me: "Yeah, I like it that way."  (pause)  "But is it too floppy?"

Mom: "That depends.  Is it a boy or a girl?"

Me: "The cup or the person drinking the coffee?"

(thoughtful pause)

Mom: "The bow."

Me: (bursts into laughter)

Aaaaad, scene.

In summation: It's a good thing we have each other.
